Job Summary: This position operates magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce cross-sectional images of patient's body for diagnostic purposes by performing the following duties.Essential Functions: • Interviews patient for history and explains magnetic resonance imaging procedures. Requests removal of metal objects which are hazardous to patient and equipment when in magnet room. Responsible for proper documentation of patient history, venipuncture if warranted. Recognizes contraindications for scanning patient, e.g., pacemaker, implants, clips, foreign bodies, weight limit for table.• Positions patient on examining table and chooses specified coil (receiver) such as head coil or knee coil, to obtain images by following protocols requested by Radiologist.• Demonstrates use of microphone that allows patient and technologist to communicate during examination.• Enters data such as patient history, weight, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into aperture of magnetic resonance imaging equipment (head or feet first) into computer.• Keys commands to specify parameters such as, scan locations, coil used, imaging options, matrix, and time into computer.• Observes patient through window of control room and via intercom, to monitor patient safety and comfort.• View images of area being scanned on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures.• Uses mouse for input into camera to photograph images.• Possesses and implements knowledge of magnet safety for staff and patients entering room.• Responsible for daily quality control.• Responsible for minor equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.• Delivers reports and films to hospital in a timely manner.• Notifies service engineer of machine problems or down time.• Responsible for janitorial needs of room (vacuum, cleaning machine, stocking supplies).• Knowledgeable in operation of pulse oximeter and its usage on decreased level of consciousness cases. Proficient in administering oxygen and utilizing suction device.• Possess basic knowledge of crash cart set-up, meds and IV solutions.• Knowledgeable in use of cardiac monitor for ECG scanning.• Responsible for administering medication to patients under radiologist's supervision, e.g., sedation, pain medication.• Draws up contrast for specific studies ensuring safe administration.• Knowledge of proper use of “sharps” container, contaminated materials and safety devices.• Assists radiologists with injections (contrast, IV, or meds IM or IV).• Possesses ability to relate to anxious or claustrophobic patients.• Ability to take screening orbit x-rays for foreign body.• Ability to work independently or closely with another technologist.• Possesses and performs good technical skills in the area of venipuncture.• Knowledgeable of workings of MRI Contrast injector and MRA protocols and post processing protocols.• Responsible for appropriate exam charging & finalization before Radiologist review.• Responsible for sending data to 3D laboratory vendor when necessary.Additional Responsibilities: • Uses professionalism and honesty in all business dealings on behalf of SJHH. • Adheres to all attendance policies at SJHH. • Remains flexible with regards to job assignments that may require the necessity to cover other departments or locations. • Demonstrates excellence in customer service when dealing with both external and internal persons while on the job. • Adheres to all policies and procedures set forth at SJHH and all applicable laws under which SJHH is obligated to comply. • Performs all other duties as assigned.Minimum Position Qualifications:Education: • Requires a high school diploma or GED. • A.S. degree in a Radiologic Technology program required.Experience: Requires two (2) years as an MRI Technologist. License / Certifications: • Current CRT license• Current ARRT license (MR)• Current CPR (BLS) certificateComputer Skills: Computer proficiency required.Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:• Knowledge and proficiency in all aspects of MRI procedures.• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other medical personnel. • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with individual situations. • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.• Understanding of IT & Computerized Protocols.• Understands and implements ACR White Paper Safety guidelines including “Safety Zones I thru IV”Preferred Position Qualifications: License / Certifications: MR preferred.
