Job Summary: This position operates computed tomography (CT) scanner to produce cross-sectional images of patient's body for diagnostic purposes by performing the following duties. Essential Functions: • Positions and immobilizes patient on examining table, using supportive devices to obtain precise patient position and following protocols specified by Radiologist, Radiation Therapist, and Oncologist.• Administers contrast media orally. Takes proper steps in set up of pressure injector for contrast media administration without air in the line or syringe. Exercises knowledge of different contrast rates and delay times for specific anatomy imaged.• Enters data such as type of scan requested, patient information, slice thickness, scan time, and other technical data into computer.• Sets proper techniques for body part being imaged. Starts CT scanner to scan designated anatomical area of patient.• Explains exam to patient in detail, including what patient might expect to feel during injection. Keeps verbal contact with patient to monitor patient's well being. Observes patient through control room window to monitor safety and comfort.• Views images of organs or tissue on monitor screen to ensure quality of pictures. Prints images on to radiographic film.• Evaluates radiographs and computer generated information for technical quality.• Documents venipuncture for contrast administration. • Responsible for daily quality control and bone density (QCT) quality control.• Responsible for supply materials and crash cart needs and basic knowledge of contrast reaction symptoms.• Responsible for minor equipment trouble shooting and maintenance, and contacting service engineers if repairs are necessary.• Knowledgeable of crash cart set-up, meds and iv solutions. • Shields patient, when appropriate, with lead aprons.• Disconnects IV lines after administration of contrast.• Knowledgeable in use of oxygen and suction equipment.• Knowledgeable of proper use of "sharps" container and contaminated materials.• Experienced in monitoring reduced level of consciousness patients using pulse oxygen saturation monitors. • Performs & Possesses good technical skills in the area of venipuncture.• Knowledge of workstation software and post processing requirements.• Knowledge of whole body CT scanning , cardiac monitor• Knowledge of CT Contrast injector.• Responsible for appropriate exam charging & finalization before Radiologist review.• Responsible for sending data to 3D laboratory vendor when necessary.Additional Responsibilities: • Uses professionalism and honesty in all business dealings on behalf of SJHH. • Adheres to all attendance policies at SJHH. • Remains flexible with regards to job assignments that may require the necessity to cover other departments or locations. • Demonstrates excellence in customer service when dealing with both external and internal persons while on the job. • Adheres to all policies and procedures set forth at SJHH and all applicable laws under which SJHH is obligated to comply. • Flexibility in work hours and assignments is necessary. • Performs all other duties as assigned.Minimum Position Qualifications:Education: • Requires a high school diploma or GED. • Requires an A.S. degree in a Radiologic Technology program. Experience: Entry level with less than 2 years’ experience as a Radiology Technologist. License / Certification:• Current CRT license• Current ARRT license (CT)• Current CPT-1 license • Current CPR (BLS) certificateComputer Skills: Basic computer skills including Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and an e-mail system. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:• Knowledge and proficiency in imaging procedures.• Venipuncture skills• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. • Must possess ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other medical personnel.• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with individual situations. • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Preferred Position Qualifications:Experience: Two (2) plus years’ experience as a CT Technologist preferred.
