CB&I EMT-P/Firefighter in Ft. Irwin, California
Under supervision, performs duties in the protection of life, property, and the environment thorough fire prevention, fire suppression, and emergency medical assistance within the EMT-P scope of practice. Performs related responsibilities as required, meets the requirements for Firefighter I & II NFPA 1001. Responds to fire and other emergency alarms. May drive emergency equipment if required. May act as flight paramedic, when assigned. Assist in all operations necessary to ensure the confinement and extinguishment of fire or of the elimination of other hazardous conditions. Servicing fire extinguishers, cleaning vehicles, and fire station property.
Operate as a member of a team to accomplish objectives dictated by management.
Lift and drag heavy objects, climb & work from high places.
Perform fire prevention inspections as required.
Work in hazardous areas, function & operate while wearing an S.C.B.A
Provide medical care to the sick and injured.
SUPPLEMENTARY FUNCTIONS MAY INCLUDE:
Participation in HDSS training classes.
Performs alarm room operations.
Give classes on fire department related subjects, as assigned.
- Must possess high school diploma or equivalent.
Certifications Required at Hire:
Firefighter I issued by State, DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard
CPR Healthcare Provider & ACLS Provider
ICEMA EMT-P Accreditation (Provisional at hire)
Certifications Required within 12 months of Employment
DoD Firefighter I
DoD Firefighter II
DoD HazMat Awareness
Dod HazMat Operations
Licenses- Valid California License w/Class B Permit
Valid California Class B or firefighter endorsement Driver's License ( must be obtained within 6 months of hire)
Military Driver's License (within three months of employment)
Valid California EMT-P License
Demonstrated knowledge of fire-fighting operations as set forth in the Department of Defense (DoD) certification program.
Demonstrated knowledge of providing Advanced Life Support level care to the sick and injured within the EMT-P scope of practice.
Communication Skills: Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
Physical/Mental Abilities Required:
Must conform to the medical requirements for Fire Fighter NFPA 1500.
Must possess the ability to use sound judgment and common sense when performing job functions.
Have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
Position: Frequent exposure to dust, desert pollen, extreme heat and cold associated with desert environment and natural conditions existing on FortIrwin. May be required to perform long hours of duty under adverse conditions to include extreme weather changes for periods in excess of 24 hours. Work 24-hour shifts and be available for dispatch during that period. Working conditions may be extremely hazardous.
The following terms are used to describe the percent of time spent performing the physical factors below: occasionally (1%-33%); frequently (34%-66%); continuously (67%-100%).
Fire trucks, rescue vehicles, admin vehicles, rescue tools, hose nozzles, appliances, electric, gas, hydraulic equipment, hand tools, shovels, rakes, tarps, pry-bars, folding water tanks, breathing apparatus, hose, confined space entry equipment, lumber for specialized rescue, ladders, protective clothing include protection boots, and all other tools and equipment related to modern fire/rescue/crash/prevention fire departments. Also included is the equipment needed to provide ALS care to the sick and injured.
OTHER WORK-RELATED DUTIES AS MAY BE ASSIGNED.
