APTIM Electrician, High Voltage in Ft. Irwin, California


Installs, adjusts, modifies, verifies, calibrates and tests operation of 4160/2400 high voltage power distribution systems such as overhead power lines/cables, switch gear, transformers, splices, potheads, etc., in accordance with State and Federal electrical codes and ordinances. Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs above ground and underground primary and secondary wiring: installs and hooks up transformers and capacitors, including pole climbing as necessary. Operates bucket and derrick trucks, Installs lighting controls and hardware. Able to work from verbal instructions, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical publications and instructional bulletins.


  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on electrical panels, generators and high voltage distribution systems.

  • Performs corrective repairs on commercial and residential buildings.

  • Attend and receive certification in Community First Aid and CPR at the required intervals.

  • Provide customer assistance and advice in a professional and proficient manner.

  • Inspect, troubleshoot all electrical systems and electrical equipment using provided test equipment.

  • Maintain, install, repair and replace panels, fixtures, devices, switches, outlets and light bulbs or light tubes.

Supplementary Functions May Include:

  • Participation in functional specific safety training that will permit working safely.

  • Knowledgeable in all standard operation procedures within the division.

  • Housekeeping-cleaning office and shop areas.

  • Perform duties in lower job classifications.


Educational Equivalent: Must possess high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Applicant must have four (4) years of experience as a Journeymen High Voltage Electrician/lineman.

Licenses: Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License. Must obtain a valid Class B California Driver's License within six months of employment.

Skills Required: Demonstrated capability to perform maintenance and repairs to electrical systems in residential and commercial buildings. MUST POSSES A State of California General Electrician Certification.

Communication Skills: Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.

Physical/Mental Abilities Required:

  • Ability to use technical manuals, technical bulletins or manufacturer's specifications while performing maintenance, troubleshooting or corrective repairs to electrical systems, generators, and associated controls.

  • Ability to accurately read measuring devices, testing equipment or instruments.

  • Ability to use good judgment and common sense when performing job functions.

  • Ability to be punctual.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.


Position: Extensive periods outdoors. Frequent exposure to dust, desert pollen, extreme heat and cold associated with desert environment and natural conditions existing on FortIrwin

Work Week: Monday -- Friday, 0700-1530

Overtime: As required

Travel Required: Yes, within FortIrwin.
